Chemistry PhD student wins international excellence award

Shao Xiaojian, a PhD student from the Department of Chemistry, has been presented with this year’s Student Excellence Award by the Chinese American Chromatography Association in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the development of separation science and its application.

Supervised by Professor Cai Zongwei, Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry, Xiaojian’s PhD focuses on applying liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to investigate ribonucleic acid (RNA) capping with nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and coenzyme A (CoA), as well as proteomics. 

Xiaojian has also been named as the first author of five publications, including two in Analytical Chemistry and one in Nature Protocols, which are both leading international academic journals.
