Year three Science students Kwok Yan-yi (Chemistry) and Chan Wing-sing (Applied Biology) have been granted scholarships under the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award 2017 scheme. They will each receive a scholarship of up to HK$150,000 to join overseas attachment programmes or service projects.
Kwok Yan-yi plans to study the Health and Society Study Abroad Programme offered by The King’s College London for one semester starting in January 2018. Yan-yi said the historic College is renowned for its cutting-edge technologies in health science. She looks forward to this overseas experience which will help in her postgraduate studies in related medicinal chemistry fields. Yan-yi would like to express her gratitude to Associate Dean of Science Dr Daniel Kwong for his guidance, which inspired her to pursue her particular research path.
Chan Wing-sing plans to study courses on ecology and conservation offered by the School of Biological Science of The University of Auckland, New Zealand, for one semester starting in February 2018. Wing-sing likes terrestrial ecology, with a particular interest in the development of conservation in New Zealand. He hopes that the forthcoming experience will enable him to compare the ecological research conducted in Hong Kong with that in New Zealand, and help his further studies in terrestrial ecology and conservation.
The scholarship award gives recognition to outstanding science undergraduates in universities in Hong Kong and provides them with an opportunity to widen their exposure or gain industry experience. Nominated by the presidents and vice-chancellors of their respective universities, the student candidates went through a selection committee to receive the scholarship award.
