HKBU confers title of Founding Endowed Chair of Elizabeth Law Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials on Professor Raymond Wong

HKBU has received a generous donation from Miss Elizabeth Law, Managing Director of Park Hotel Property Management Limited, to establish the Elizabeth Law Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials. At a conferment ceremony held yesterday (21 April), the University bestowed the title of FoundingEndowed Chair of Elizabeth Law Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials on Professor Raymond Wong, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry. Miss Elizabeth Law, Mr Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court, and Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, officiated at the ceremony.
In her speech, Miss Elizabeth Law said by establishing an Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials, she hopes to further promote the scientific development of HKBU. Miss Law praised Professor Raymond Wong as an outstanding young scientist who is a world acclaimed expert in advanced materials and an associate director of the Partner State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis (Hong Kong Baptist University). She believes under the leadership of Professor Wong, the University’s research in advanced materials will scale new heights and earn fruitful results.
In his speech, Professor Albert Chan commended Miss Elizabeth Law for her passion for charity, with special emphasis on education, and her active participation in and support to the development of HKBU. Professor Chan said through the establishment of the Elizabeth Law Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials, the University invites a world renowned scientist to serve as endowed chair to lead and chart the research activities of the Institute of Advanced Materials under the Faculty of Science. This will further enhance HKBU’s research and development of advanced materials, reinforce the University’s leadership in the field among the international academic community, and contribute to society with innovative and excellent research results.
Professor Raymond Wong is a distinguished young scientist with outstanding academic and teaching performance. His research focuses on the development and application of novel molecular functional materials and metallopolymers. Among the most influential scientific researchers in chemistry and materials science, his academic brilliance has earned him a number of international and national awards. Professor Wong is ranked among the world’s top 1% in the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) list of most-cited chemists and materials scientists.
Following the ceremony, Professor Wong delivered his inaugural lecture “Go Green! Get and Save Energy with Advanced Materials”, through which he highlighted the importance of advanced materials in the development of organic optoelectronics.
