Prof. Chan Wing-hong wins prize in Natural Sciences from Ministry of Education
Professor Chan Wing-hong is dedicated to research into enhancing real samples analysis and living cell imaging.
Professor Chan Wing-hong of the Department of Chemistry, together with research team members from Hunan University and Peking University, was granted the "First Class Natural Sciences Award" in the 2011 Excellent Science Research Achievement Award for Higher Institutions. The Award was conferred by the Ministry of Education, China at an Award Conferment Ceremony held in Hong Kong yesterday (29 March).

Under the collaborative project, titled "New Strategies for Fluorescent Probe Design and Signal Transduction", the team successfully developed an array of highly selective and sensitive fluorescent probes for the novel detection of biologically relevant cations, amino acids and DNA based on rational molecular design and sound photo-chemical principles. The technology can be applied to real sample analysis and living cell imaging.

Led by Professor Yang Ronghua, Hunan University, members include Professor Tan Weihong, Dr. Na Shao, Dr. Li Jishan from Hunan University, Professor Li Keon from Peking University, and Professor Chan Wing-hong from HKBU.

Expressing his delight at receiving the Award, Professor Chan said, "It was my pleasure to have participated in this research project, through which I worked with Professor Yang, whom I have collaborated for more than 10 years. I am also pleased to see the great achievements of the younger scholars on the Mainland and the high standard of research technology in China."
